    RED took off in 2016 with the first hotels in Minneapolis and Brussels, both centrally located, steps away from the hustle and bustle as well as trendy digs for night hawks. Watch for Glasgow and Cape Town openings ahead and plans for 60 RED's in 60 cities by 2020.

    A new heartbeat for Brussels and Minneapolis! The world’s first Radisson RED hotels opened there in 2016 with big plans for other cities across the globe. Reaching out to millennial-minded travelers, RED skips the formal lobby/restaurant/lounge/meeting space layout and integrates them in a ‘social hive’. In Brussels, RED is steps away from the European Parliament, the bistro-bar scene of Place de Luxembourg and short walk from the other EU institutions. In Minneapolis, it’s in trendy redeveloped East Town, steps from U.S. Bank Stadium. Rezidor plans to expand to more than a dozen REDs, including Miami, Portland and Campinas, Brazil.

    RED’s Emerging Artist 2016 competition was intense. Splashing color and energy, Hanh Huynh’s name means ‘happiness’ in Vietnamese. Danny Molloy of Ireland contrasts with traditional pen and ink methods to create dark, mystical works inspired by Dali. Dan Bean creates melting aquarelles and dabbles in wood, styrofoam and digital. Jen Walker of Scotland experiments with 3D design. Mallorie Mae Faubert of Philadelphia incarnates Jackson Pollock. Plus a half dozen tattoo artists. The winner? The bold pop art of Lucy Truelove - @lucytruloveartist!

    The first Tesla Powerwall to be installed in a Belgian business is in the lobby of the Radisson RED Brussels, storing energy from the hotel’s 20 solar panels. It provides power to the video wall in the lobby and to the hotel’s energy grid. Thanks to the Powerwall, the Radisson RED solar network is available 24/7.
